DIR Bottom Timer – One of a kind

Two authoritative interviews and technical characteristics of the DIR Bottom Timer conclude the third part.

Before getting to the heart of the depth gauge’s functionality, let the protagonists tell us a little about the various anecdotes that contributed to this result.

We interviewed the President, Massimo Barnini who tells us a little about Dani – that’s the way Massimo calls Daniele – and tells us his opinion on the instrument.

Hi Massimo, good morning. Good morning to you.

Tell us something about Daniele, just to start.

Daniele, yes, Daniele as I introduce him to my friends, I call him Dani, frankly. He’s a funny member, he’s weird. A beautiful friendship has been established in the fifteen years that we have known each other.

The first signs on the depth gauge?

I exactly remember the depth gauge. We had talked about it many times, but there had never been an opportunity to move forward with the project. I remember very well the day he came to me to tell me that it was possible: I was in the garden working in my ciringuito and loading the tanks for the next dive.

At the bend to get home to me, I hear the horn honk twice as if to signal something important, and so it was. The depth gauge could have been done.

So is Daniele the true supporter of this tool?

Indeed you can truly say that the father of the DIR Bottom Timer is Dani, even though it is sold by the Dir Store and built by DiveSystem. He has chosen the right place for any information, on a very nice dial with very large characters on the design of the iX3M-2. It follows the mnemonic system and validates the decompression in mnemonics.

Who can use it?

Everyone can use it. From recreational divers to technical ones, from open to closed circuit. Basically it is said that it is a depth gauge, in reality it is a real computer. It doesn’t give you informations about the decompression, not this one, because the mnemonic system is based on personalization. The tool provides data and only by knowing the mnemonic system you can achieve your own decompression.

Thank you, Massimo. Last question: so to use it do you need to take a mnemonics course? Who should you contact?

Yes, you do of course, you have to take part in a course, you can find all the information by clicking here: Mnemonic Deco System. Furthermore, constant in person and on line meetings are planned, and you can participate in the various events organized by the instructors throughout the country.

We leave Massimo and return on August 2nd to the Mezzocanale shoal, which is said to be one of the most beautiful dives in the Tuscan archipelago.

That day, describes Giacomo Guerrieri – expert diver and important figure in DiveSystem – who was also present at the dive with Marco Savarelli, they found themselves on the same rubber dinghy with Daniele who, in turn, accompanied some students for a tek1 course dive: “With my inseparable buddy Marco we find ourselves talking to Daniele, a rather outgoing guy, a presence that is immediately noticeable. We first started talking, and then slowly, intrigued to learn about and delve deeper into the UTR mnemonic system, we began a training that over the years led us to obtain the Tek3 patent together with Daniele. However, in addition to the educational path taken, a beautiful friendship was established which still continues today with both Marco and me.“

Giacomo, do you want to tell us that little anecdote about your repentance?

During the first dives, Daniele explained to us the need on the part of the divers who used the mnemonic system for a depth gauge that was clear, with a large color screen, made in Italy (and therefore with excellent assistance) and at a competitive price. Still unaware of what awaited me, I replied: but what does it take?? Just remove informations from the iX3M computer that we already have!

Still today, perhaps, I regret for that sentence.

How did the first tests go?

The prototype was a disaster and completely rejected. I still remember a dinner with Daniele and Massimo in which they explained to me, in a  lighthearted way, all the “flaws” and things that weren’t right according to their point of view.

In any case, I must admit that both Daniele and I, we were not discouraged and pushed forward with the project.

Our intent, as a company, is to satisfy every need of the diver, without judging or teaching divers to dive, that’s what teaching methods exist for. . DiveSystem will always be in favor of every single initiative intended to improve and satisfy the needs of all divers, trying to help enhance their diving by making it easier, amusing and safer.

How crucial was your contribution to all this?

I must admit that personally in this project I have done very little, other than to understand the needs filtered and interpreted in the “Lucaccitese” language and bring them back to our electronics laboratory and be able to develop them. All compliments and credits must go to the Ratio laboratory team. I must admit that little by little they did an excellent job and led by the chief engineer Marco Mori they managed to create the product that we can see today.

Do you have other collaborations with Massimo Barnini, UTRtek and the DIR Store?

The collaboration with UTR/DIR STORE and DiveSystem does not stop at the depth gauge: in fact, in addition to the DIR Bottom Timer (sold exclusively by DIR STORE) a range of trilaminate drysuits has also been created, including the brand-new WSE wetsuit. But this is another story…

How did DBT evolve after the first failure?

The depth gauge in the first version was actually much more messy and was unable to cover the needs that emerged.

The evolution looked like this after various tests, updates and modifications:

Nowadays, after many tests and modifications, it presents itself with the following characteristics:

1. 1) The values and data have been repositioned on the display in a more correct and conventional way.
2. 2) You can reset the timer pressing the Long Press button.
   3) You cannot reset the average deep.
3. 4) Creation of a new acronym RDL (Reference Deco Limit). It appears with an average between 10 and 21.9 metres and refers to the curve times in the Bühlmann metre-metre tables. These values therefore remind the diver (in recreational diving) of the time available in the curve based on the average depth at which he is. A value therefore very different from the classic NDL value read on dive computers.
   5) With an average depth greater than 22 metres the TTV appears. This can be locked and unlocked as we wish.
   6) Crossroads. When mean and actual depths are equal, they turn green.
4. 7) Once out of the water it takes just 2 minutes to exit the dive (no longer 10 minutes). Reason linked to shallow cave diving which could distort the average.

I would say a fantastic product, are there any further improvements planned?

The DIR Bottom Timer is specifically designed to cover the needs of both recreational and technical divers, in open or closed circuit, using it EXCLUSIVELY with the UTRtek mnemonic system. In this regard, we have other updates in the pipeline that would further improve the product. With the constant success of this product, we will continue to develop it, making it increasingly unique.

DIR Bottom Timer – Unique en son genre

Avant d’entrer dans le vif du fonctionnement du profondimètre, laissons les interprètes nous raconter un peu les différentes anecdotes qui ont contribué à ce résultat.

Nous avons interviewé le président Massimo Barnini qui nous parle un peu de Dani – c’est ainsi qu’il appelle Daniele Lucaccini – et nous donne son opinion sur l’instrument :

Salut Massimo, bonjour. Bonjour à toi.

Conte-nous quelque chose de Daniele, juste pour commencer.

Daniele, oui, Daniele, lorsque je le présente à mes amis, je l’appelle en fait Dani. C’est un élément sympa, il est étrange. Une belle amitié s’est nouée depuis quinze ans que nous nous connaissons.

Les premiers signes sur le profondimètre ?

Je me souviens exactement du profondimètre. Nous en avions parlé à plusieurs reprises, mais il n’y avait jamais eu d’opportunité de faire avancer le projet. Je me souviens très bien du jour où il est venu me voir pour me dire que c’était possible : j’étais dans le jardin, où j’ai construit un ciringuito, et j’étais en train de charger les bouteilles pour la prochaine plongée.

Au tournant pour rentrer chez moi, j’entends klaxonner deux fois comme pour signaler quelque chose d’important, et ce fut le cas. Le profondimètre aurait pu être réalisé.

Donc, c’est Daniele le véritable partisan de cet outil ?

En effet, on peut vraiment dire que le père du DIR Bottom Timer c’est Dani, même s’il est vendu par Dir Store et construit par DiveSystem. Il a repensé le placement des informations dans une manière plus utile, sur un très joli cadran et des caractères de très grande taille pour le design de l’iX3M-2. Il respecte le système mnémonique et valide la décompression en mnémonique.

Qui peut l’utiliser ?

Tout le monde peut l’utiliser. Du plongeur récréatif au plongeur technique, du circuit ouvert au circuit fermé. Pratiquement on dit que c’est un profondimètre, en réalité c’est un véritable ordinateur. Cela ne donne pas de décompression, ce n’est pas le cas, car le système mnémonique est basé sur la personnalisation. L’outil fournit des données et ce n’est qu’en connaissant le système mnémonique qu’on peut réaliser une décompression personnalisée.

Merci Massimo. Dernière question : alors pour l’utiliser faut-il suivre un cours de mnémotechnique ? À qui on doit s’adresser ?

Oui bien sûr, il faut participer à un cours, on trouve toutes les informations en cliquant ici : Mnemonic Deco System. De plus, des réunions constantes sont prévues en personne et en ligne et on peut participer aux différents événements organisés par les instructeurs dans tout le Pays.

Nous quittons Massimo et revenons au 2 de août au haut-fond de Mezzocanale, qui est réputée être l’une des plus belles plongées de l’archipel toscan.

Ce jour-là, raconte Giacomo Guerrieri – plongeur expert et figure importante de DiveSystem – qui était également présent à la plongée avec Marco Savarelli, ils se sont retrouvés sur le même zodiac avec Daniele qui, à son tour, accompagnait quelques étudiants pour une plongée de cours tek1 : “Avec mon inséparable copain Marco, nous nous retrouvons à discuter avec Daniele, un gars plutôt extraverti, une présence qui se remarque immédiatement. Nous avons d’abord commencé à parler, petit à petit, intrigués de connaître et d’approfondir le système mnémonique UTR, nous avons commencé un voyage qui, au fil des années, nous a conduit à obtenir le brevet Tek3 avec Daniele. Cependant, en plus du parcours éducatif suivi, une belle amitié s’est nouée qui perdure encore aujourd’hui soit entre moi que avec Marco.“

Giacomo, veux-tu nous raconter cette petite anecdote sur ton repentir ?

Lors des premières plongées, Daniele nous a expliqué le besoin des plongeurs qui utilisaient le système mnémotechnique d’avoir un profondimètre clair, avec un grand écran couleur, fabriqué en Italie (et donc avec une excellente assistance) et à un prix raisonnable et compétitif. Ignorant toujours ce qui m’attendait, j’ai répondu : mais que faut-il ?? Il suffit de supprimer les informations de l’ordinateur iX3M que nous possédons déjà !

Même aujourd’hui peut-être que je regrette cette phrase.

Comment se sont passés les premiers tests ?

Le prototype fut un désastre et complètement rejeté. Je me souviens encore d’un dîner avec Daniele et Massimo au cours duquel ils m’ont expliqué, de manière ludique, tous les “défauts” et les choses qui n’allaient pas selon leur point de vue.

En tout cas, je dois admettre que ni Daniele ni moi on ne s’est pas découragés et nous avons poussé le projet.

Notre intention, en tant qu’entreprise, c’est de satisfaire tous les besoins du plongeur, sans ni juger ni apprendre aux plongeurs à plonger, c’est pour cela que les méthodes d’enseignement existent. DiveSystem sera toujours favorable à chaque initiative visant à améliorer et à satisfaire les besoins de tous les plongeurs, en essayant de les aider à améliorer leur plongée en la rendant plus facile, plus amusante et plus sûre.

Dans quelle mesure votre contribution a-t-elle été cruciale dans tout cela ?

Je dois avouer que personnellement dans ce projet j’ai très peu fait, sauf comprendre les besoins filtrés et interprétés dans le langage “Luccaccitese” et les rapporter à notre laboratoire d’électronique pour pouvoir les développer. C’est précisément à l’équipe de notre laboratoire Ratio que doivent revenir tous les compliments et tout le mérite. Je dois admettre que petit à petit, il a fait un excellent travail et, sous la direction de l’ingénieur en chef Marco Mori, l’équipe a réussi à créer le produit que nous pouvons voir aujourd’hui.

Avez-vous d’autres collaborations avec Massimo Barnini, UTRtek et le DIR Store ?

La collaboration avec UTR/DIR STORE et DiveSystem ne s’arrête pas à la jauge de profondeur : en effet, en plus du DIR Bottom Timer (vendu exclusivement par DIR STORE), une gamme de combinaisons étanches trilaminées a également été crée, dont la toute nouvelle combinaison WSE. Mais c’est une autre histoire…

Comment DBT a-t-il évolué après le premier échec ?

Le profondimètre de la première version était en réalité beaucoup plus déroutante et n’était pas en mesure de couvrir les besoins qui émergeaient.

L’évolution se présentait ansi après divers tests, mises à jour et modifications :

Aujourd’hui, après plusieurs tests et modifications, il se présente avec les caractéristiques suivantes :

1) Les valeurs et les données ont été repositionnées sur l’écran de manière la plus correcte et conventionnelle.
2) On peut mettre à zéro le timer avec confirmation sur Long press.
3) La moyenne ne peut plus être réinitialisée.
4) Création d’un nouveau sigle RDL (référence déco limite). Il apparaît avec une profondeur moyenne comprise entre 10 et 21,9 mètres et fait référence aux temps de courbe des tableaux compteur-mètre Bühlmann. Ces valeurs rappellent donc au plongeur (en plongée loisir) le temps disponible dans la courbe en fonction de la profondeur moyenne à laquelle il se trouve. Une valeur donc bien différente de la valeur NDL classique lue sur les ordinateurs de plongée.
5) Avec une profondeur moyenne supérieure à 22 mètres, le TTV apparaît. Celui-ci peut être verrouillé et déverrouillé à notre guise.
6) Carrefour. Lorsque la profondeur moyenne et la profondeur réel sont égales, elles deviennent vertes.
7) Une fois sorti de l’eau, il faut seulement 2 minutes pour qu’il termine la plongée (pas plus que 10 minutes). Raison liée aux plongées souterraines peu profondes qui pourraient fausser la moyenne.

Quoi dire!? C’est un produit fantastique, y a-t-il d’autres améliorations prévues ?

Le DIR Bottom Timer est spécialement conçu pour répondre aux besoins des plongeurs récréatifs et techniques, en circuit ouvert ou fermé, en l’utilisant EXCLUSIVEMENT avec le système mnémonique UTRtek. Prima di entrare nel vivo delle funzionalità del profondimetro, facciamoci raccontare un pò dagli interpreti i vari aneddoti che hanno contribuito a questo risultato.

Abbiamo intervistato Il Presidente, Massimo Barnini che ci racconta un pò il Dani – così chiama Lui Daniele Lucaccini – e ci dice la sua sullo strumento:

Ciao Massimo, buongiorno. Buongiorno a te.

Raccontaci qualcosa di Daniele, giusto per iniziare.

“Daniele, si, Daniele come lo presento agli amici, veramente io lo chiamo Dani. È un bell’elemento, è strano. Si è instaurato un bel rapporto di amicizia in questi quindici anni che ci si conosce.”

Le prime avvisaglie sul profondimetro?

“Mi ricordo proprio del profondimetro. Ne avevamo parlato molte volte, mai c’era stata opportunità per andare avanti con il progetto. Ricordo benissimo il giorno che venne da me a dirmi che si poteva: ero in giardino a lavorare al mio ciringuito e a caricare le bombole per la prossima immersione.

Alla curva per arrivare a casa da me, sento il clacson strombazzare due volte come a voler segnalare qualcosa d’ importante, e così è stato. Il profondimetro si poteva fare.”

Quindi Daniele è il vero fautore di questo strumento?

“In effetti si può davvero dire che il padre del DIR Bottom Timer è Dani, anche se è venduto dal Dir Store e costruito dalla DiveSystem. Ha ridisegnato le informazioni in modo corretto, su un quadrante molto bello e caratteri molto grandi sul design dell’ iX3M-2. Rispetta il sistema mnemotecnico e convalida la decompressione in mnemonica .“

Chi lo può usare?

“Possono usarlo tutti. Dai ricreativi ai tecnici, dal circuito aperto a quello chiuso. In pratica si dice che è un profondimetro, in realtà è un vero computer. Non da la decompressione, questo no, perchè il sistema mnemonico è basato sulla personalizzazione. Lo strumento fornisce dei dati e solo conoscendo il sistema mnemonico si può realizzare una decompressione personalizzata.”

Grazie Massimo. Ultima domanda: quindi per usarlo bisogna fare un corso di mnemonica? A chi bisogna rivolgersi?

“Si, certo, bisogna partecipare ad un corso, potete trovare tutte le informazioni cliccando qui: Mnemonic Deco System. Inoltre sono previsti incontri costanti in presenza e online e si può partecipare ai vari eventi organizzati dagli istruttori sul territorio nazionale.”

Lasciamo Massimo e torniamo al 2 Agosto alla secca di mezzocanale, si dice una tra le immersioni più belle dell’arcipelago toscano.

Quel giorno, racconta Giacomo Guerrieri – esperto subacqueo e importante figura della DiveSystem – presente anche lui all’immersione con Marco Savarelli, si ritrovarono sullo stesso gommone con Daniele che, a sua volta accompagnava degli allievi per un tuffo di corso tek1: << con il mio inseparabile buddy Marco ci ritroviamo a parlare con Daniele, tipo piuttosto espansivo, una presenza che si fa notare subito. Iniziammo prima a parlare, e poi piano piano incuriositi a conoscere e approfondire il sistema mnemonico UTR iniziammo un percorso che ci ha portato negli anni a raggiungere proprio insieme a Daniele il brevetto Tek3. Oltre però al percorso didattico fatto, si è instaurato un bellissimo rapporto di amicizia che ancora oggi continua sia con me che con Marco.>>

Giacomo, quel piccolo aneddoto sul tuo pentimento, vuoi raccontarcelo?

<< Durante le prime immersioni, Daniele ci spiegava dell’esigenza da parte dei diver che utilizzavano il sistema mnemonico  di un profondimetro che fosse chiaro, con un grande schermo a colori, fatto in Italia (e quindi con un’ottima assistenza) e a prezzo concorrenziale. Ancora ignaro di quello che mi aspettasse gli risposi: ma che ci vuole?? Basta togliere informazioni dal computer iX3M che abbiamo già!>>

Come andarono i primi test?

<< Il prototipo fu un disastro e completamente bocciato. Mi ricordo ancora una cena con Daniele e Massimo in cui mi spiegavano, in modo goliardico tutti i “difetti” e le cose che non andavano bene secondo il loro punto di vista.

Ad ogni modo devo ammettere che sia io che Daniele non ci scoraggiammo e spingemmo il progetto.

Il nostro intento, come Azienda, è quello di soddisfare ogni esigenza del subacqueo, senza giudicare o insegnare ai subacquei a fare immersioni, per quello esistono le didattiche. . La DiveSystem sarà sempre a favore di ogni singola iniziativa volta a migliorare e soddisfare le esigenze di tutti i subacquei cercando di contribuire a migliorare le loro immersioni rendendole più facili, divertenti e sicure.>>

Quanto è stato determinante il tuo contributo a tutto ciò?

<< Devo ammettere che personalmente in questo progetto ho fatto ben poco, se non quello di capire le esigenze filtrate e interpretate nella lingua “lucaccitese” e riportarle al nostro laboratorio di elettronica per poterle sviluppare. E’ proprio il team del nostro laboratorio Ratio a cui devono andare tutti i complimenti e meriti. Devo ammettere che pian piano ha fatto un ottimo lavoro e guidati dall’ingegnere capo Marco Mori sono riusciti a creare il prodotto che possiamo vedere oggi.>>

Con Massimo Barnini, la UTRtek e il DIR Store avete altre collaborazioni?

Dopo il primo fallimento come si è evoluto il DBT?

<<Il profondimetro nella prima versione si presentava effettivamente molto più confusionario e non riusciva a coprire le esigenze emerse.>>

L’evoluzione si presentava così dopo vari test, aggiornamenti e modifiche:

Oggi, dopo vari test e modifiche si presenta così con le seguenti caratteristiche:

1) I valori e i dati sono stati riposizionati sul display in maniera più corretta e convenzionale.
2) Il timer azzerabile con conferma long Press
3) Media NON più azzerabile
4) Creazione di un nuovo acronimo RDL (reference deco limit). Compare con media compresa tra 10 e 21,9 mt e fa riferimento ai tempi in curva delle tabelle metro metro Bühlmann. Questi valori ricordano quindi al subacqueo (nelle immersioni ricreative) il tempo a disposizione in curva in base alla media in cui si trova. Valore quindi ben diverso dal classico valore NDL che si legge nei computer subacquei.
5) Con media superiore a 22 compare il TTV. Questo si può bloccare e sbloccare a nostro piacimento.
6) Incrocio. Quando media e profondità sono uguali, queste diventano verdi.
7) Uscito dall’acqua impiega appena 2 Min ad uscire dall’immersione (non più 10 Min). Motivazione legata a immersioni in grotta a bassa profondità che poteva falsare la media.

Direi un fantastico prodotto, sono previste ulteriori migliorie?
